THE OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S
EDUCATIONAL ACCESS TELEVISION STATION KDOL TV

Who we are:
High school students, college interns, teachers, and trained media professionals.

KDOL TV is primarily dedicated as an educational service to the OUSD's community, students, teachers, and governing board. We cablecast diverse, non-commercial programming serving the Oakland community and public school district.

KDOL TV is available to Oakland residents as part of Comcast's cable lineup. As of June 2003, KDOL TV will air solely on Cable Channel 27.

Shows (past & present) produced at and aired on KDOL:
Title One Homework Hotline, Algebra Hotline, Parent Talk, Town Hall Meetings, Algebra Distance Learning, Geometry Distance Learning, Spanish Distance Learning, Counselor Community Connection (CCC Live!), KDOL Newsreel, KDOL Sports, Oakland Talent Showcase, and Class Act. We also provide live coverage of the Board of Education meetings and press conferences and we air District Advisory Council videos. (more info)

TEAMS Distance Learning, NASA (via satellite), The Annenberg Channel (via satellite), PBS adult learning, the U.S. Department of Education Town Hall Meetings and Classic Arts Showcase, and the shows highlighted in the KDOL Indie Hour: independently produced films, videos, documentaries, and shorts that pertain to education, culture, or the local community.

KDOL TV offers the following services:

Production Training:
KDOL offers OUSD students, ages 15 and above, production training in multi-camera studio production, the use of field camcorders, and video editing.

Overnight Community Bulletin Board:
The Bulletin Board appears on KDOL whenever taped or live programming is not scheduled (typically 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.) (more info)

Video Services:
Once certified, students and District employees can use KDOL cameras and editing systems to produce their own educational programs for use in the classroom or to air on KDOL. When staff and equipment are available, KDOL staff will produce videos for district related programs.

Free Cable TV to all School Sites:
All School sites are entitled to TWO FREE Cable TV "drops" into their school sites.

Call AT&T Cable Services at 925-973-7245. Leave a detailed message and they will return your call (if you run into any problems-call KDOL).

Once cable is delivered to your school, plan to distribute the cable to all of your classrooms and set-up your own School Site TV station! (consult with KDOL to find out how).

KDOL TV Services for School Sites:

Video Production:
-Tape duplication (copyright free only).
-Full service studio and video editing facilities for teacher and staff use.
-Professional audio/visual consulting is also available.

Video Production Training: Turn your students into TV stars!
Highlight your school and students by creating your own video programs. KDOL offers OUSD teachers training in Video in the Classroom projects-make TV work for you as your students acquire valuable project learning skills and build their self-esteem.

Student Video Production Training:
KDOL hires over 40 high school students a year and provides hands on training for talent and technical jobs at KDOL. Please refer interested and motivated students to KDOL and then utilize newly trained students at your School Site for video services.

Camcorder Checkout:

KDOL has two VHS camcorders that can be checked out to teachers.

REMEMBER: Once certified, students and District employees can check out KDOL equipment and utilize facility equipment to produce their own non-commercial, educational programs.

Satellite Downlinking:

KDOL can downlink, air, and record Electronic Field Trips, Educational Satellite Teleconferences, PBS Adult Education, US Department of Education Satellite programs, and other satellite programming.

Teleconferences can be conducted in the TLC where groups can communicate with the presenters.

KDOL has your school's best interest in mind and can provide you with excellent information regarding your video projects. Talk to KDOL staff for the straight scoop on all forms of video services, whether it is video equipment purchases, production services, or video networking jobs for your school site.
